I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Mike's wife Jean called me a couple of minutes ago to tell me that Mike passed away yesterday (21 June) quite comfortably. We will all remember him with great affection.
This came as something of a shock as well as a sadness. I first met Mike the day I joined IBM, and to this day I remember his cheerful "Welcome to the club!" We frequently met in subsequent years (decades actually) and during that time he never seemed to change, always forthcoming, cheerful, and like his brother Chris, apparently omniscient, but totally unassuming. A very rewarding person.
Sad news, Mike was the most connected/networked person I have ever know, a wonderful human being. Spent much time chatting about cricket and attending many Computer Society functions, enjoying many (too many) red wines with Mike. Purchased many upgrades and peripherals for our S/36 and AS/400's through him.
